Annapurni Subramaniam (IIA) : Observatory Software / Science

Annapurni Subramaniam Annapurni Subramaniam is a professor at IIA. She is an observational astronomer and has published more than 100 research articles. She uses various optical telescopes in the world to carry out research on topics such as, star formation, young stellar objects, star clusters and nearby galaxies. She is the calibration scientist for the Ultraviolet imaging telescope on ASTROSAT. She is a core member of the India-TMT consortium. She is a fellow of (1) Indian Academy of Sciences and (2) National Academy of Sciences

Anupama G. C. (IIA) : Segment Polishing / Science

G.C.Anupama Prof.G.C.Anupama is an observational astronomer, her research interests are in the area of transients - novae, supernovae, GRBs, TDE events and AGNs. She also has keen interests in the development of astronomical facilities. She headed the team (2001-2003) that was responsible for the comissioning and science verification of the 2m Himalayan Chandra Telescope (HCT) and instruments. She is currently the Professor-in-charge of the Indian Astronomical Observatory, the site of the HCT, and CREST (IIA). As a core member of India TMT, Anupama heads the M1 segments group (India). Anupama is also the Convenor of the TMT Time Domain ISDT

Devendra K Ojha (TIFR): Science

Eswar Reddy Bacham (IIA) : Programme Director

Eswar Reddy Prof. Eswar Reddy is an astronomer at Indian Institute of Astrophyiscs. His area of specialisation is applyling high resolution spectroscopy to understand stellar nucleosynthesis and Galactic evolution. He was a post doctral fellow (1997-1999) at Valparaiso University and research fellow (1999-2003) at Univesirsity of Texas, Austin. He is currently professor at IIA, Bengaluru, and has been national coordinator for India's partcipation in one of the GSMTs (2008-2012) and later (2012-present) has been appointed as the programme director of India TMT programme and designated governor to the TMT project board of governors

Mahesh P.K. (IIA) : Hardware

P.K.Mahesh A Graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the Government Engineering College, Trichur, Kerala, affiliated to the University of Calicut, Mahesh started his career at the Department of Aerospace Engineering, Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore and worked for two years with, the then Chairman of the Department, Dr.S.Durvasula, in a project sponsored by the Defence Research and Development Laboratory, Government of India.
Mahesh joined the Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA), Bangalore in November 1988 and has since been working on instrumentation for Astronomy and Physics and has worked on some of the major projects of the Institute such as setting up the Indian Astronomical Observatory and the Himalayan Chandra Telescope in the Himalayas, the Ultra-Violet Imaging Telescope (UVIT) payload on Astrosat, a multi-wavelength Astronomical payload to be launched by the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO).
Presently, Mahesh is heading the Mechanical Engineering Division of IIA.
Mahesh has published/co-authored 24 technical papers in the field of his work.
Mahesh is also an Associate Member of the Institution of Engineers' (India), Mechanical Engineering Division

Manoj Puravankara : TIFR I-TMT Co-ordinator

Neeraj Gupta (IUCAA) : Telescope Control System

Neeraj Neeraj Gupta is an Associate Professor at IUCAA, India. Before joining IUCAA in 2013, Neeraj worked as a postdocotoral research fellow at the Australia Telescope National Facility in Sydney, Australia (2007-2010) and the Netherlands Institute for Radio Astronomy in Dwingeloo, the Netherlands (2010-2013). He obtained his Ph.D. from Tata Institute of Fundamental Research in 2007. He is India-TMT work package manager for TMT's Telescope Control System. He is also co-Principal Investigator of the MeerKAT Absorption Line Survey (MALS), one of the ten large surveys to be carried out with the MeerKAT radio telescope in South Africa. MeerKAT, the South Africa's precursor to Square Kilometer Array (SKA), is expected to become operational in 2018 and will be the most sensitive radio telescope at cm-wavelengths in the world until the SKA phase-I becomes operational in 2023

Raghunathan Srianand (IUCAA) : SAC Member / Science

Srianand Prof. Raghunathan Srianand is a senior faculty at Inter-University centre for Astronomy & Astrophysics, Pune.
His main research interests are Astronomical spectroscopy, observational cosmology, physics of inter-galactic medium, modelling of galaxies, probing the time and spatial variations of different dimensionless fundamental constants and outflows from the AGNs. He is at present one of the co-chairs of the Scientific Advisory Committee of the Thirty Meter Telescope Project and member of the Project Management Board of ITCC

Sivarani Thirupathi (IIA) : SAC Member / Science & Instruments

Sivarani Sivarani completed her PhD in 2000 from Indian Institute of Astrophysics on the studies of "A and F stars with circumstellar dust". Her primary research interests are chemical abundances of metal poor stars of the Galaxy and its satellites. Currently, she is a member of the TMT science advisory committee and also one of the convenors of the ISDT on "Stars and ISM". She is also deeply involved in the WFOS optical design phase, simulations of WFOS optical layout, distortion and modelling of the instrument flexure

Sriram S. (IIA) : Optics Engineer

Sriram S.Sriram, Engineer (Optics) completed Master of Technology in 2000 from Anna University on Laser and Electro-Optical System. Joined Indian Institute of Astrophysics in 2000 and working on various instrumentation projects in the field of astronomy.

b) Building Optical/Astronomical Instrumentation
c) Optical Metrology.
Working experience:
a) Design and building of fibre fed high resolution spectrographs
b) Design, integration, test and calibration of UV payload for astronomy.

Sujit Punnadi (IUCAA) : Telescope Control System

Sujit Sujit holds a bachelor's degree in computer science and a masters in Industrial Mathematics with Computer Applications. Sujit joined IUCAA in 2009 and has led software design and development efforts related to Instrument Control, Data Acquisition, and Control and Monitoring on Linux platform. Additional responsibilities include lab IT procurement and administration. Sujit has interests in device driver development, middleware, parallel programming and kernel development on Linux platform. Sujit is part of TMT India Software group and is actively involved in engaging with software vendors on various software work packages

    Arul Delbin Rosy J. (IIA) : Project Admin Asst. II

    Rosy Rosy possesses a bachelor's degree BSc in Computer Science from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore and a Master of science degree MSc in Information Technology from Sikkim Manipal University. She has seven years of experience in Office Administration. Rosy joined the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore in August, 2013 as Project Admin for the Thirty Meter Telescope Project

    Arun Kumar A (IIA) : Project Engineer I (Mechanical)

    Arun Arunkumar A is currently working as Project Engineer (Mechanical) in the Thirty meter Telescope(TMT) project here at Indian institute of Astrophysics (IIAP), Bangalore.
    Prior to this, he was working as Assistant Manager of Production Planning and Control (PPC) department at Dynamatics Technologies Limited, an Aerospace company in Bangalore, where he started his career as Production Planning and Control Engineer working under the guidance of then Deputy General manager of PPC department.
    He has a work experience of about 3.5 years with skill sets in field of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP), Maintaining Line of Balance (LOB), involved in major project like BELL 407 and BOEING P8 aircrafts with fabrication of parts starting from raw material, processing, heat treatment, other special process & addressing queries/clarifications from the teams.
    He holds Bachelor of Engineering degree in mechanical engineering from Sapathagiri college of engineering, Karnataka, affiliated to Visvesvaraya technological university (VTU) and a Diploma Degree in Tool and Die making from Government Tool Room and Training Center (GTTC) Bangalore

    Alikhan Basheer (IIA) : Project Engineer - I (Optics)

    Alikhan Alikhan Basheer, Engineer Trainee (Optics/Instrumentation), he completed his B-Tech degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Mahatma Gandhi University, Kerala, India in the year of 2012. He then did his M-Tech degree in Optical Engineering from Indian Institute of Space Science and Technology (IIST), Thiruvananthapuram, India. He carried out his M-Tech project at Laboratory for Electro-Optic Systems (LEOS-ISRO) on the topic “Design Study of Stressed Mirror Polishing (SMP) for Segmented Mirror Telescopes”. Immediately after his Masters, he joined Indian Institute of Astrophysics as an internship student for duration of six months. During this time, he was involved in the 2D Profilometer related works for the Primary Mirror Segments of Thirty Meter Telescope (TMT). Later he got selected as an Engineer-Trainee under the India TMT Coordination Center (ITCC) facilitating at IIA, Bangalore. Currently he is involved in the research activities under Segment Polishing Group (SPG).

    Basavaraju C. H. (IIA) : Admin Consultant

    BasavarajuBasavaraju C.H. possesses Bachelor of Arts degree from Mysore University. He started his career in Kudremukh Iron Company Limited, (a Government of India Enterprises) and worked from 1978 to 1983 (5 years) and later joined Indian Space Research Organization/Department of Space and worked there from 1983 to 2012 ( 29 years). During his tenure in ISRO, he handled versatile assignments in the areas of Administration, Accounts, Purchase and Stores, Facility Management, Security Management, Vendors Management, Public Relations, etc. He underwent training programs in Management Executive Development Programme at some premier institutions. After superannuation from ISRO, joined India TMT Coordination Centre, IIA, Bangalore as Consultant, Administration on 10.9.2015. His present assignments are in the area of Purchase/Stores, Accounts and Administration relating to TMT work

    Devika .K. Divakar (IIA) : Project Scientific Associate - I

    DevikaDevika K Divakar, Engineer Trainee(Optics/Instrumentation), she obtained her Bachelor Degree(2012) from Mount Carmel College, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Her's was a triple major in Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science. She went on to obtain her Master's degree (2014) in Physics from St. Joseph’s College, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. For her M.Sc thesis, she worked at the Indian Institute of Science, Bangalore on designing an optical MEMS displacement sensor using racetrack ring resonator. She received the gold medal in this Physics Master's program. She joined Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore in 2014 as an Internship student. As an intern, she worked on the TMT- Wide Field Optical Spectrometer (MOBIE) end-to-end optical simulations, telescope field optimization distortion and design of flexure compensation of this instrument. She developed a pyZDDE based simulator to study the distortion of MOBIE. On the basis of this work, in 2016, she was appointed as Engineer Trainee (Optics/Instrumentation) at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore. She is currently working on the optical analysis of various designs for TMT - Wide Field Optical Spectrometer in collaboration with University of California Santa Cruz

    Girish .M (IIA) : Project Engineer -I (Software)

    Girish Girish is a computer science graduate and a technology enthusiast from Bangalore. After graduation, he worked as software engineer for four years in a defence public sector undertaking company. His primary interest lies in software development using open source technologies

    Hari Prasath S (IIA) : Project Associate -II (Technical)

    HariS.Hari Prasath is Project Associate (Technical) for India TMT project. He holds the major responsibility of managing schedules, tracking, analyzing the earned value and reporting of all India TMT work packages and Hardware deliverables from vendors, since his joining from mid of April of 2015. He is also engaged in various other duties entrusted from time to time.
    He has worked on Project Management and Engineering design departments for over three years. Previous assignments have included Diploma Engineer Trainee, Graduate Apprentice and as Contract Engineer in FLSmidth Pvt Ltd., Chennai, complete service provider for Cement and Minerals industries globally.
    He has completed his Diploma in Mechanical Engineering (2008) from S.I.T, Trichy and Bachelor's degree in Mechanical engineering (2012) from M.A.M.C.E, Trichy.

    Janani Varadhachari (IIA) : Project Engineer - I (Optics)

    Janani Janani Varadhachari graduated in 2010 with a Bachelors in Electronics and Communication Engineering from Anna University. She went on to pursue her Masters with Honours degree in Optical Technologies from Germany. Following which she was working with the Bell Labs, Germany in the field of Optical communication. She was a recipient of the academic excellence award from the Republic of Germany. After her tenure in Bell Labs, she moved to the Netherlands to pursue a design engineer trainee program, where she was associated as a design engineer with companies like ASML (World’s leading IC manufacturer) and AMS semiconductors. She relocated to Bangalore in 2017 and started working in ITCC as a project engineer in Optics

    Lalit Kumar (IIA) : Project Engineer - I (Mechanical)

    Lalit Lalit completed his Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra in 2012. His Undergraduate Engineering Project Dissertation “Fouling of Heat Transfer Surfaces: An Experimental Investigation to find the effect of Flow Velocity on Scale Deposition” was accepted for oral presentation at the International Journal of Arts & Sciences (IJAS) Conference for academic disciplines which was held at Harvard University in 2013.
    After graduating, he joined Tata Motors Limited, Jamshedpur as an Assistant Manager in August 2012. As the Shift Incharge, he was responsible for the management and operation of two Front Axle Assembly Lines and its Hub Sub-Assembly Lines for the Tata Motors Medium and Heavy Commercial Vehicles.
    Lalit joined the India TMT Coordination Center as Project Engineer – I (Mechanical) in January 2018. Here I am in the Quality Assurance Team, presently working on Vendor Quality Assurance for the M1CS Actuators

    Nikhil Naik (IIA) : Project Engineer II (Mechanical)

    NikhilAfter completing professional education in Mechanical Engineering from University of Mumbai, Nikhil started his career at M/S Bharati Shipyard Ltd., Ratnagiri. At the shipyard he was looking after the piping, installation & commissioning of hydraulic machinery. Later he got an opportunity to work in the field of Marine Instrumentation, where he was responsible for the Design and development of an autonomous marine system. After successfully completion of the project at National Institute of Oceanography, Goa, he started working at Giant Meterwave Radio Telescope – TIFR as a Project Engineer where he was working on the Project of antenna structure up-gradation and re-erection of the antennas badly affected by corrosion.
    Presently working as Works Package Manager for SSA at TMT-ITCC

    Prasanna Gajanan Deshmukh (IIA) : Project Engineer - I (Optics)

    PrasannaPrasanna Deshmukh received his master’s of technology degree in Astronomical Instrumentation from Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIA) & University of Calcutta in August 2013. He has worked on ‘Development of Precision controller for TMT Actuator’ at ITCC laboratory of IIA for his master’s thesis. He also has a bachelor’s of engineering degree in Electronics and Telecommunication from Shivaji University, Kolhapur. He is a student of Integrated M.Tech-PhD in Astronomical Instrumentation at IIA, Bangalore, India since July 2011. Currently he is perusing a PhD degree in the field of segmented mirror telescope actuators. His interest lies in telescope control systems, active optics, control system modeling & simulations, astronomical instrumentation & astronomy outreach

    Rajalakshmi Narayanan (IIA) : Project Engineer - I (Software)

    Rajalakshmi Rajalakshmi graduated as an Engineer in Information Technology in the year 2014 from Punjab Technical University. She worked as a programmer for 1.3 years with National Informatics Center , Department of Personnel and Training, New Delhi before joining IIA as Project Engineer-I(Software), TMT project since 06-06-2016

    Surojit Kumar Roy (IIA) : Project Technical Asst. II

    SurojitSurojit has a diploma's degree in mechanical engineering from Acharya Polytechnic, Bangalore, Karnataka, India. Surojit started his career with automobile sector and worked for four months with Accropoly Metal Industries (P) Ltd, Jamshedpur. Later on he moved to CSIR-National Metallurgical Laboratory at Jamshedpur and worked in Material Science and Technology department. Surojit joined the Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore in April, 2012. Currently he is working on prototyping of M1CS Actuator and M1 Segment Support Assembly (SSA) for the Thirty Meter Telescope Project

    Tarun Kumar Sharma (IIA) : Project Engineer I (Electronics)

    TarunTarun Kumar Sharma did his B.E. in Electronic Instrumentation and Control from Govt. Engineering College Bikaner, Bikaner in 2009 and M. Tech. in Astronomical Instrumentation from Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore in 2011. His PhD thesis title is “Development of Instruments for Astronomical Site Characterization and their Application”, and he has submitted his thesis to Calcutta University, Kolkata in June 2016. His research interests includes Electronic Instrumentation, Embedded Systems, Microcontrollers, Circuit design, Astronomical Instrumentation, Telescope Automation, and Telescope Control System. At present, he is involved in various telescope projects (16-inch Direct Drive Telescope, 70-cm GROWTH Telescope and TMT) at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore

    Varun Saraswat (IIA) : Project Engineer I (Mechanical)

    VarunVarun has graduated from Uttar Pradesh Technical University in Mechanical Engineering in 2012. He started his career in M/s Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles Ltd. and worked in Gearbox Design for TWO years. He gained a fair amount of experience in Designing, Basic Manufacturing Processes and GD&T. He joined the I-TMT Project as part of ARIES, Nainital in 2015. After working in ARIES for ONE year, he moved to Indian Institute of Astrophysics (IIAP), Bengaluru as Project Engineer – I (Mechanical) for the I-TMT Project. In IIAP, he is appointed as Work Package Manager for Third Party Inspection Qualification and Central Diaphragm Process Development. He also qualified GATE (Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering) – 2015 with 97.33 Percentile.

    Viswanatha Narasimhaiah (IIA) : Consultant - Principal Engineer (Mechanical)

    ViswanathaN. Viswanatha is Ex-Group Director, Spacecraft Mechanisms Group, ISRO Satellite Centre. He retired from ISRO in August 2015 and is working as design review team member. He is currently working as “Consultant-Principal Engineer” for India TMT Project at Indian Institute of Astrophysics, Bangalore
    He joined ISRO Satellite Centre in 1980 and worked as Configuration Management and Control engineer for the first Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) satellite project till 1984. From 1984 he has worked in the area of design assembly and testing of spacecraft deployment mechanisms and mechanical systems. He is the Designer of Solar array deployment mechanisms for our first Indian communication satellites INSAT-2A,B,C,D &E. He has designed many novel and innovative mechanisms for our satellites including novel Solar Panel Drive Mechanism for our Mars mission, Antenna pointing mechanisms & SMA Flap mechanism. He was the Design Team Leader of “Large Unfurlable Antenna” of GSAT-6 satellite which was successful deployed in-orbit in 2015. Sri. Viswanatha is recipient of NRDC Technology day award 2002. Has bagged ISRO Satellite Centre Technology day awards for five times and ISRO Team excellence awards for three times and is also the recipient of "ISRO Performance Excellence Award". He has three International patents. He has published more than 40 papers in national and international conferences and journals

    ArunArun Surya is a Postdoctoral Fellow working with India-TMT. Currently he works on flexure compensation simulations of the WFOS Spectrometer. He did his PhD on developing image retrieval techniques for direct imaging large baseline optical interferometers. He has keen interest in developing software solutions for Instrument design and also in writing data pipelines for instruments
